Guardians of Light Deck Strategy on MTG 14

Guardians of light is one of the Planeswalker decks that can be unlocked after you defeat the first four opponents in Innistrad. These planeswalker duels are your first chance to choose a deck to unlock by selecting your opponent, so choose wisely! (Click here for more information on the Planeswalkers). That said, if you chose to fight the cat avatar, you chose wisely.

The Guardians of Light deck is a combination-heavy deck that allows its wielder to simultaneously attack and heal. The basic strategy is to set up a solid line of defense with creatures. Some of these creatures will be able to heal you when they attack, but all of them can be augmented with the many, many auras and enchantments contained in this deck. Stack enough Auras on the right cards and you can easily have a double-digit attack counter on cards that heal you for the same amount of damage they cause within a few rounds. Once your cards on the battlefield are strong enough, the rest of the battle is alternating between a strong defense (which can usually eliminate your opponents attacking creatures) and a strong offense, usually carried out by creatures that are flying, which puts them beyond the reach of approximately 55% of the creatures that you're likely to face.

Difficulties in the Campaign

The Guardians of Light is an excellent first deck to acquire from the Planeswalker duels, as it allows you to easily overcome many of the obstacles in the campaign. While it doesn't hit hard immediately, after a few rounds your cards are strong enough to overpower any defensive line and, in case you are up against the type of opponent that can damage you directly, will also keep your health well above 20. The one problem that this deck can have is if you are facing a time sensitive challenge, as the deck relies upon a strategically built hand to be sustainable that will usually take a few turns to come together.
